An Appointment to the United States Secret Service

Hi, I’m George and in August of 1971 I thought I had reached the pinnacle of life when notification arrived of my appointment to the United States Secret Service, in Washington, DC.

September of that year I arrived in Washington to begin an extensive 4-month training program. By January of 1972 I was assigned to the White House branch of the Secret Service Uniform Division. How tremendously exciting it was for a young man to have the chance to see the President, of the White House and other heads of state almost on a daily basis.

After arriving at the White House, I met a man by the name of Ed, who also works with the Secret Service. In my eyes he was a friendly man, but many of the guys had labeled him as a religious fanatic. I soon understood why.

Ed would share the gospel with me, and my need-to-know Christ as my personal Savior. At first, I did not see this need for Christ and refused to make such a commitment, even though I had a deep down empty feeling, much guilt and no love.

I lived a selfish life and enjoyed all the worldly things a bachelor would enjoy. My goals were to obtain all the glory the Secret Service might offer, and to live today. Still, with all the worldly pleasures to enjoy there was no ultimate satisfaction. I had the same emptiness with no peace in my heart.

Ed continued to witness to me about Christ, and His power over sin. I struggled with the decision. Eventually after the constant prayers and faithful witness of Ed, and the convincing power of Gods Holy Spirit, I received Jesus Christ into my heart on October 23rd, 1973., at the White House while on duty.

My life changed drastically. I began reading the Bible (No matter how many guys questioned my sanity). I started attending a Bible preaching church and began sharing Jesus Christ with others.

Since then the Lord has worked countless miracles in my life. He has given me a new spirit and a new direction. Christ has replaced the emptiness with His promise of eternal life, absolute peace, absolute love, absolute joy, and power over all sin and guilt. Today I have a new attitude of living for Christ, coupled with true love and concern for others something I never possessed before.

It is great to be alive and great to be a Christian living in these exciting times. I know the Lord has a plan and a purpose for my life. Working at the White House had given me the opportunity to meet thousands of people.  After having the chance to meet Presidents, and see them and their families in private moments, the Lord had given me a great burden for the different Presidents and Government officials and their families. I Also traveled with the different Presidential candidates, especially the President and Vice President. During election years, security must be extra tight. One must understand that they are human, and have the same needs for peace, love, and a Christ controlled life – As do all.

Few people realize the intense pressure that the Leaders of this nation must work under. Their days are totally filled with activity and hard work – and they need our prayers more than ever in the times we live.

I thank God so much for having the opportunity to see history in the making every day at the White House. But most of all I thank God for Jesus Christ who makes my life have purpose and meaning.

Please pray for our leaders. They need the wisdom of the Spirit of God to lead our Nation. The President and all leaders at all levels of government need our consistent and total prayer commitment.
